The DFRobot heart rate sensor is a thumb-sized heart rate monitor designed for Arduino microcontroller This heart rate monitor sensor is a pulse sensor that is developed based on PPG techniques. This is a simple and low-cost optical technique that can be used to detect blood volume changes in the microvascular bed of tissues. It is relatively easy to detect the pulsatile component of the cardiac cycle according to this theory. The sensor has two holes that you can use to attach to your belt. You can wrap it on your finger, wrist, earlobe, or other areas where it has contact with your skin. A gravity interface is adapted to allow plug & play to ease the barrier of usage.  The io sensor shield is the best option to connect this heart rate sensor with your Arduino or other microcontrollers. Besides, this sensor can also be compatible with raspberry pie, intel Edison, joule, and curie by means of 3.3V Input Voltage.

Setup Guide

Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.

Wire to your microcontroller
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V (check the module spec), GND to GND, and data pins to the appropriate GPIO pins on your Arduino or Raspberry Pi.

Install libraries
In Arduino IDE, go to Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for the sensor library. Install the recommended version.

Upload example sketch
Open File → Examples → [library name] → Basic Example. Upload to your board and open Serial Monitor to view output.

Calibrate if needed
Some sensors (temperature, humidity, distance) may need a short warm-up period or calibration. Run the calibration sketch if provided.
