Features of the weather-resistant MB8450, Car Detection Sensor, include centimeter resolution, short to long-distance detection, range information from 500mm to 5000mm for the nearest detectable target, a ~4Hz read rate, and an easy-to-use USB interface. The MB8450 Car Detection Sensor is a low‑cost vehicle detection sensor that uses ultrasonic technology for non-contact sensing. The MB8450 is designed to be an easy-to-use sensor for applications where vehicle detection is desired. This sensor is great for applications such as vehicle kiosks, ATMs, and bank drive-throughs. The MB8450 is factory calibrated to match sensor beam patterns and provide reliable long-range detection zones. In addition, the MB8450 offers virtually noise-free distance readings through the use of high-output acoustic power combined with continuously variable gain, real‑time background automatic calibration, real‑time waveform signature analysis, and noise rejection algorithms. This holds true even in the presence of many of the various acoustic or electrical noise sources.

Features:

  1. USB interface
  2. Multi-sensor operation
  3. Preset proximity detection zone of 150cm
  4. Vehicle detection sensor
  5. RoHS compliant
  6. Small, light weight module
  7. Designed for easy integration into your project or product

1 x Maxbotix MB8450 USB CarSonar WR Ultrasonic Sensor

Setup Guide

1
Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.
2
Wire to your microcontroller
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V (check the module spec), GND to GND, and data pins to the appropriate GPIO pins on your Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
3
Install libraries
In Arduino IDE, go to Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for the sensor library. Install the recommended version.
4
Upload example sketch
Open File → Examples → [library name] → Basic Example. Upload to your board and open Serial Monitor to view output.
5
Calibrate if needed
Some sensors (temperature, humidity, distance) may need a short warm-up period or calibration. Run the calibration sketch if provided.
